14-year-old girl sets house on fire as family sleeps: Slender Man morbid deed?

A 14-year-old girl set her family’s Floridahouse on fire as her mother and younger brother were sound asleep in their beds. It was about 1:30 in the morning when Lily Marie Hartwell put a well-thought out plan in action by first changing out of her nightgown so it wouldn’t catch fire.
Full story after the cut...

According to People Magazine , from there the teen went into the kitchen looking for flammable liquids, which she found. She took a bottle of rum and another flammable liquid and mixed the two together. She went out to the garage and soaked a bed sheet and a towel in the liquid and set it ablaze.
The teen then left the house where she decided to hold up for the night in a bathroom at a nearby park. She had packed a bottle of water, cookies, knives and a couple of lighters to take with her when she left the house, reports ABC News. The teen appeared to have put some planning into this horrendous deed.
Back at the house the fire had spread and the Port Richey home was an inferno. The mother woke to the smell of smoke and found her nine-year-old son. She led her son out of the house to safety then ran back in to find her daughter, reports CBS News.
She was unable to find her daughter and the heat from the fire eventually forced her to leave the burning structure. Fire rescue went into the blaze looking for the girl, but they too had no luck with their search, reports the New York Daily News. It took 17 firefighters to knock out the fire several hours, the house was gutted from this fire. The girl not only put her mother and brother in harm's way, but the firefighters as well.
A couple of hours later, Lily sent her mother two text messages. In the first one the teen basically admitted to lighting the fire with her mom and brother inside the house. The first message said:
"Mom, I'm so sorry, I don’t know why I did it."
The second one continued with asking if anyone was hurt. Lily writes:
"Did any of u get hurt?"
It sounded as if Lily had a change of heart asking her mother if anyone was hurt. Lily was still at the park when the authorities started the search for her. They found her at the park not far from the house, which had burned to the ground.
This disturbing incident got even more disturbing when authorities learned that the girl may have done this as a tribute of some sort to the “Slender Man,” a fictional character online. She was also reading the book “Soul Eater” and told police that after reading something in that book it clicked in her to light this fire.
She had been reading about a shouting scene in the book between two people and it made her think of the argument she had with her mother earlier over cleaning her room. It was at that point in time when she decided to set the fire.
The “Slender Man” references were found when investigators searched her computer. They found the site Creepypasta.com, which is a site that is associated with the “Slender Man.” They also found her diary which was equally as disturbing. She wrote about her home life:
"If this keeps up there will be no safety in this house."
Lily was arrested and she is still in lockup. The Florida State Attorney’s Office will decide if they will try her as an adult or as a child. Along with arson for setting the fire, the teen has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.
This is very similar to the crime carried out by two Wisconsin 12-year-old girls back in May. In a sick tribute to the “Slender Man,” they stabbed their friend, another 12-year-old girl. They stabbed their young friend a total of 19 times. Their classmate survived and is returning back to school next week, according to People.
