On Saturday, the 20th of Dec, 2014, the deputy governor of Imo state, His Excellency Prince Eze Madumere, undertook a personal expeditionary mission to Amuzi Spring Water to meet interact with the nature nature, make a personal inquiry into its rich history and weigh its value to the people and the State in general.
It was a surprise and quiet visit to the Umulowu community in Obowo to have a firsthand experience and personal report of the legendary spring water source which has been in silent existence for over a century according to community sources The legendary Amuzi spring water source which is legendarily called “the Iyi Ishi Ehi” or “Iyi Azu Ulo Okporo” is credited as the source of the longevity enjoyed by the people of the surrounding communities who drink from the water source for centuries. The oldest man that died in the community died at the age of 135 years, and the average die at 80 or 90 years.
This angle of history
was made available to the deputy governor and his expedition entourage
by a renowned leader of the community, Hon. Chief Innocent Okporo whose
father’s house, Late Chief Lawrence Okpokoro, sits at about 200 feet
above the water mouth.
Hon. Okporo is the
Government liaison Officer of Amuzi and former SA Security to Gov. Rochas
Okorocha. He is the current chairman of Board of Directors, Imo
Development Finance and Investment Company Limited.
